Jagr gives Devils' DeBoer ringing endorsement

There will continue to be speculation around the job security of New Jersey Devils coach Pete DeBoer with the team having missed the playoffs, but the coach does have the unquestioned support of the team's MVP.

Jaromir Jagr will be an unrestricted free agent this summer and he'd like to see DeBoer return.

“If I stay here, there’s no question about it,” Jagr said, via Fire & Ice. “I’m very comfortable with the system we play. It gives us a chance. You don’t really have to be the most talented team in the league. We beat teams – Boston, Pittsburgh, L.A. Anaheim, St. Louis. We beat those teams. With the system we play and everybody knows what we’re doing, it gives us a huge chance. It’s very important to me.

“Then, it’s up to us how we play. But the system we’ve got, I really like.”

Whatever else happens with the Devils in free agency or trades doesn't matter for the veteran winger.

“I don’t have to see anything,” he said. “If I come back or whatever happens, I feel like we have a good enough team to make the playoffs, maybe one or two changes."
