Babcock has "a real presence in the room"
/The career path of new Vancouver Canucks video coach Ben Cooper is outlined by The Province’s Ben Kuzma, including how Cooper played a similar role for Team Canada head coach Mike Babcock in the 2010 Olympics.
“It was very demanding, pretty intense and a lot of fun,” recalled the 36-year-old Cooper.
“You get up early in the morning and he wants it sharp and wants it a certain way and you’ve got to be on the ball. It was a good experience and it was hard work.
“He’s very inclusive of the video coach and wants to know everything. You’re with him all the time and he breaks down video on his own and he’s watching clips all day, constantly. He’ll start after a game with 100 clips and make comments and then get down to 70 and start the process again and get down to 10 clips.
“Mike’s video meetings with the players are very short, focused and direct and maybe six or seven minutes. And he’s got a real presence in the room.”
