Montreal's mayor loves 'spontaneity' of Twitter

With David Desharnais earning the Canadiens' nomination for the Masterton Trophy, The Montreal Gazette circled back to the controversy surrounding a Desharnais-related tweet sent by then Montreal mayor-elect Denis Coderre.

He explains his fan-like mindset at the time, and, as far as his presence on Twitter, joked, “I need to get a life, eh? But I love to share with people. Twitter is media, but it’s social. It’s about dialogue. If it’s an infomercial, they’ll change the channel.

“I don’t have assistants tweeting for me. You have to be real, you have to connect, you have to live with what you’re writing. That’s it.”

He added: “I’m there to add my own little comments sometimes,” he said, then he laughed. “OK, all the time. But Twitter is outreach. I love the spontaneity."

Interesting interview throughout, and he also pokes some fun at Don Cherry with the Bruins-Habs rivalry.

On the free agent front: “If I’m Bergevin, I re-sign Andrei Markov. And I do everything I can to keep Vanek.”
