Trading Spezza would likely cost Senators Hemsky

The Ottawa Citizen passes along that Senators winger Ales Hemsky, an unrestricted free agent this summer, made it clear his potential future with the team would depend on whether or not the team plans on trading Jason Spezza.

“I want to play with a good centre,” said Hemsky. “That’s the most important for me. Jason been great to me. I had a blast to play with him. I would like to know what they want to do.”

On contract talks: “We’re having meetings now (between his agent and Senators general manager Bryan Murray) and we’ll see what’s going on. I’ve got to know what’s the future here and what they’re thinking and I will go from there. It’s just a few talks, nothing really big. I’m not rushing anything. I will see my options.”

After all of the years of not participating in the post-season with the Oilers, and now this spring with the Senators, Hemsky said, "I just want to play in the playoffs. That’s my goal.”
