Flames' work ethic resonates with fans
/The consistent theme with the Flames this year has been hard work and The Calgary Herald illustrates the mutual respect between the team and the fans that is clearly more than just lip service.
Bob Hartley pointed out one home game in particular — a 6-5 loss to Nashville on March 21 that saw the Saddledome give his group a standing ovation after being down 2-0 early, then tied it 3-3, then fell behind 4-3. They came from behind one more time to even it 4-4.
“I’ve been in hockey for a long time and I got one only standing ovation,” Hartley said. “I saw my team get a standing ovation here this year after a loss. That’s probably a first in hockey history. It just goes to show the passion that our fans have for our hockey club. I have the utmost respect for Flames fans. I understand they’re showing patience. They see guys never give up, guys block shots, guys go through the wall, and they respect that. We’re trying to establish a blue collar attitude over here. This is the first step of being successful.”
