Selanne pays Getzlaf ultimate compliment
/With the Flames hosting the Ducks Wednesday night, The Calgary Sun takes a look at Anaheim star Ryan Getzlaf and his potential for being a Hart Trophy nominee this season.
Teammate Teemu Selanne, who knows a thing or two about the game: “I haven’t seen a better player this year. That’s a pretty great compliment.”
Kelly Kisio reminisces about Getzlaf's time with the WHL's Calgary Hitmen.
“He’s come a long ways since the days he was with us,” said Kisio, who had Getzlaf on his roster for four campaigns from 2001-05.
“That he can be mentioned in those (NHL MVP) breaths now, it’s a credit to how far he has come and how he has dedicated himself to playing the game."
Also this tidbit from Kisio, asked about a 'when he wants to play... he's very good' feeling on Getzlaf over the years:
“That was Ryan’s big knock when he played for us. I was coaching at the time, and we had fights almost daily on his work ethic and how hard he had to push,” Kisio said. “I always felt he could score almost every time he was on the ice. That’s how talented he was and how much he could dominate …
“He’s as good as he wants to be, and right now he’s great. I think he’s right where he wants to be and where he should be.”
