Rebound control keys Bernier's success

With the Leafs in California taking on the Los Angeles Kings Thursday night, Jonathan Bernier's longtime goaltending coach shared some thoughts with The Toronto Star.

Marco Marciano knew Bernier would thrive following the trade from the Kings.

“Everywhere he played he was a No. 1,” said Marciano. “At a young age, he was playing with pressure. He was playing with top people who had a lot of expectations of him.

“He’s the type of kid who, the more he plays, the better he is going to perform.”

Rebound control has been a key to Bernier's success.

“That is the one thing we focus a lot on — rebound control,” said Marciano. “Every stop he makes it’s like it’s his last one. He reads the play. He is not a big goalie, he competes for every shot.”
