Dreger: Sabres "seem to be consistently in that mix" for O'Connor

Darren Dreger was on Vancouver’s TSN 1040 on Tuesday morning.

On what he’s hearing on Matt O’Connor and if there’s a leader in the clubhouse as far as signing him:

“Well, no. There’s probably a short list of five teams and it’s tough to say. That list of five might change from week-to-week too .Buffalo seems to be consistently in that mix, primarily because he’s going to get an opportunity to play.

“And as we saw the Toronto Maple Leafs do with Casey Bailey... assuming that O’Connor’s team drops out of the college post-season picture, you could see Matt O’Connor play in the National Hockey League. If they do so, they burn a year of eligibility off. But it’s still a list of 15, 16, 17 teams that are still showing interest in him.

“The agent Todd Reynolds told me – well, advisor – told me last week that Matt still wants to meet with a few teams once his college season is over.

“So you’ve got Baun in the mix and Matt O’Connor. But those two guys are going to get signed.”
