Friedman's likely Norris finalists will "no doubt" include Giordano
/Elliotte Friedman was on Buffalo’s WGR 550 on Wednesday morning.
On if Mark Giordano automatically loses out on his Norris Trophy candidacy (Friedman has a Norris vote) because of his season-ending injury:
“He’s going to be in my conversation. I don’t know he’s going to get my vote for sure, but this is what I normally do when I sit down and make my votes.
“ I will make a list of guys. I will say, ‘Okay, first of all, here’s a list of everybody I would consider.’
“Regardless of whether I think they’re the best guy or the fifth-best guy, here’s everybody I would consider.
“And then – you’re allowed to put five people on the ballot. You rank your five choices, 1-5. I drop it down to five at that point. I say, ‘Okay, I’ve got to cut everybody else out and now here’s my Top 5.’ And then I parse it from there.
“I have no doubt Giordano is going to be in my Top 5. My other guys this year who I think are going to be on my ballot are going to be Doughty, who’s having a huge year. Subban, who’s having a huge year. Probably both Weber and Josi, from Nashville. Ryan Suter again, for Minnesota; although I avoided Suter the last two years and he hasn’t won, so for his sake I’m probably not going to vote for him again. Giordano. And I’m trying to think if there’s anybody I’m missing. But those are probably my group and I’ll pare it down from there.
“But there’s a chance he still gets my vote. Yes I am going to consider that.”
