Dreger addresses trade speculation linking Canadiens with Oilers, Predators

Darren Dreger was on Montreal’s TSN 690 on Thursday morning.

On how Marc Bergevin was seen meeting with Nashville Predators GM David Poile at the team hotel, as well as how talks could still be on the table between the Canadiens and Oilers, and if he thinks that could be an active possibility headed to the trade deadline:

“Well, I think it’s a possibility. Look, one thing I know about Marc Bergevin is he talks to a lot of GMs. Particularly the Western Conference guys because it’s tough doing trade business in the Eastern Conference.  When you’re a top team in the Eastern Conference who is going to help you out, unless you’re giving away an asset that that team absolutely needs.

“Bergevin can be linked to a few Western Conference teams, but nothing specific to say that they’re nailing down on this player or that player.

“As good as the Montreal Canadiens are, I think he’d clearly consider an upgrade both up front and on defence. I don’t think that there’s an urgency on either front, but I do think that if there was an opportunity to maybe improve on his back end defensive corps that he’d consider doing that.”
