Dreger on O'Reilly trade talk: Leafs' Nonis hasn't spoken to Avalanche in "over a month"
/Darren Dreger was on Toronto’s TSN 1050 on Monday morning.
As part of a larger discussion on the Leafs:
“I had a brief chat with management this weekend. And we can speculate all we want on certain players. Ryan O’Reilly out of Colorado. Well, the information I have is that Nonis hasn’t spoken to the Colorado people in over a month, month and a half.
“And what’s the ticket for Ryan O’Reilly going to be? $6.5 million-plus? And now you’re looking at David Clarkson and others who you’re paying premium dollars for and going, ‘We can’t miss. We can’t miss. We like Ryan O’Reilly. We think he’s a heck of a hockey player.’ But at that kind of change? You’d better be absolutely certain.
“And you’re looking for top line centres. You’re looking for a top-pairing D. The needs of this organization are fundamentally huge. And again, real tough to execute in-season.”
