Friedman: Coyotes' Yandle "could be a $7 million player"

Elliotte Friedman was on Calgary’s Sportsnet 960 on Thursday afternoon .

As part of a larger discussion on the Arizona Coyotes, now specific to if they’d be okay with trading a 28-year-old Keith Yandle:

“I think the reason that you’ll see Yandle get traded is he’s got one more year until unrestricted free agency. He’s going to be a 28-year-old defenseman with his history of scoring. He could be a $7 million player.

“I think the Arizona Coyotes know that if they are going to trade him at the maximum, you’re trading him to a team that can get him for at least two playoff runs before they have to worry about that. Or a team that looks at him and says, ‘We can get him for next year. We can get him in, we can see if we really like him, and if we really like him we can try to sign him if he’s comfortable here.’

“For star players right now, free agency really starts the year before they hit UFA. We’re getting there with Keith Yandle. And I do think that he knows that that’s a guy who can bring himself a return because a lot of teams love puck-moving defensemen. It’s time for Keith Yandle now, I think.”
