McKenzie: Flyers wouldn't worry about making Babcock $5 million coach

Bob McKenzie was on Toronto’s TSN 1050 on Monday afternoon.

Transitioning from a discussion on potential coaching candidates for the Leafs like Mike Babcock, with the one trump card in Toronto being that despite a roster that could be seen as unattractive and the media fishbowl, they have more money than anybody else:

“You know what though, there’s a lot of teams with money.”

Not Leafs money though.

“The Philadelphia Flyers have got... And I’ll tell you what – the way their team is trending, and with Berube... and I really like Craig Berube. And maybe they’re going to pull out of it. And they’ve got a lot of issues there. I think Ron Hextall is looking at the team in terms of what they’re building toward, and everything else. And I’m not sure Mike Babcock wants to go to Philadelphia anymore than he would want to go to Toronto, but they’ve got Claude Giroux and some other pieces there. And they’ve got an owner who’s not going to worry about putting a 5 in front of anybody’s salary, and a lot of zeroes after it for a coach.”
