Dreger: Bertuzzi in "phenomenal shape"

Darren Dreger was on TSN 1050 Thursday evening.

On UFA Todd Bertuzzi and if he still wants to play in the NHL:

“Yeah, he still wants to play. For those players who are right at the end of their career, you’re never going to hear those around them say he’s in terrible shape and he’s incapable of playing another game in the National Hockey League.

“So what we’re hearing on Todd Bertuzzi is quite the opposite. At 39, he’s in phenomenal shape. He’s ready to go, waiting for the phone to ring, all of those things.

“I know that there’s been some interest. It might be a little bit early. But again, at 39, there’s a lot of mileage on Todd Bertuzzi.  Are they willing to take a chance. He’s a gamer. Might have some offensive push left in him.

“But he’s also a realist and happy coaching his son Tag... in Detroit. So probably leaning toward retirement, but he hasn’t made that decision official yet and would show interest if someone showed interest in him.”
