Boyle: "Islanders came out of the blue"

Newsday’s Steve Zipay caught up with New York Rangers defenseman Dan Boyle last week, discussing the offensive looks he can bring to the team’s blueline. The rearguard hadn’t yet spoken specifically about his role with Alain Vigneault, but...  

"They got me for a reason,'' said Boyle. "I'm not going to re-invent myself; they know what they're getting.''.

The 38-year-old chose to go to free agency, despite the New York Islanders having traded for his rights in June.

"The Islanders came out of the blue; I had no say. Not to sound cocky, but I had plenty of options,'' he said. "Growing up as a Canadian kid, you'd like to play for an Original Six team; never had a chance. So I'm anxious to get there.''
