Red Wings 'planning to be active'

The Detroit Free Press details that before signing a few RFAs, the Red Wings estimate they have $20 million in cap space headed into 2014-15. Most of the team's UFAs are expected to be gone and the organization is still waiting to hear if Daniel Alfredsson wants to return for another campaign, or retire.  The Wings remain interested in his services.

Monday through Wednesday of this week will see the team's brain trust gather with the franchise's pro scouts.

"I want to hear what our scouts think of our young players, talk about what we need, and formulate a plan,” GM Ken Holland said.

“It’s going to be an important three days,” Holland said. “I respect the opinions of our pro scouts, I want to hear how they evaluate our team, and go over the other 29 teams, especially the ones in the east.

“We’re hoping to be active, we’re planning to be active.”
