Panthers allow Dineen, Canes to talk

The Miami Herald reports former Florida Panthers coach Kevin Dineen, fired in November, has been granted permission to speak to the Carolina Hurricanes. That word came from a Florida spokesperson. Dineen's contract expires June 30.

Dineen didn't speak about the Canes specifically, but offered a comment on his job search.

"I'm actively looking but patiently waiting to see how things play out,'' said Dineen. "I'll see how these scenarios play out.''

On being behind the bench for the Team Canada women's gold medal effort in Sochi:

"I haven't had to buy a beer in Canada in three months. It took the country by storm. To be a small part of that is something that will stay with you for a long time.''
