Oates interested in Canucks' coaching job

Former Washington Capitals coach Adam Oates spoke with Team 1040's Scott Rintoul Thursday, which began with Oates sharing his impressions of working on Hockey Night in Canada for playoff coverage.

On whether this TV stint has altered his thoughts on what's next for his career:

"No, not really. No, I really enjoy coaching and I have enjoyed it and I'd like to continue it."

On if he'd jump right back into it and coach next season if possible:

"Yes I would, absolutely. As I said, I really love it. I love the puzzle. I love trying to pass the knowledge on to the players. You know, you miss the game when you played it and you miss the stress of it and coaching - being right there - it's intense and I really enjoy it."

On if he's had any discussions with the Vancouver Canucks:

"No I haven't.

On if he'd take Trevor Linden's call:

"You know what? I would say I figured you were going to ask me that question and the answer is I don't think there's a guy in hockey that wouldn't want to coach the Vancouver Canucks when you think about the organization.

"First of all, it's a fantastic city and a great sports town. You look at the team, they've got... a good defense, they have young goaltending, and obviously an opportunity to coach the Sedins. I think I could make them productive and Ryan Kesler.

"There's not a single guy I don't think that would consider the opportunity if it made sense."
