Penner: Capitals need to execute the game plan

CSNWashington.com notes how often the Capitals are being outshot by their opponents this season, also pointing out the team is 0-25-6 when scoring two or fewer goals.

“Obviously, this team is very potent offensively and to win games at this time of year you’ve got to dilute that potency in order to keep pucks out of your net,” winger Dustin Penner said.

“It might mean a boring first period for the players and for the fans, but you have to think, ‘First shift, we can’t get scored on.’ We have a game plan, it’s the application of it that gets away from us.

“We have the talent to score goals. But there are teams in this league whose whole goal is to keep us below two goals.”
