Pavelski's intelligence stands out for Sharks
/The New York Times profiles the success of San Jose Sharks forward Joe Pavelski, with two quotes about his mental acuity in particular standing out.
“He may be one of the best pros I’ve ever seen because he plays to his strengths, works on his areas of improvement, and he’s gotten better each and every year,” Wisconsin Coach Mike Eaves said. “Those six inches between his ears make up for any deficiency that he may have physically, and even then, he’s working on those.”
And this from P. K. O’Handley, who coached Pavelski to a United States Hockey League championship with the Waterloo Black Hawks:
“You see him hit a golf ball, he can do things that guys on the tour do. That’s how his mind works; he’s always one step ahead. He’ll end up behind a tree and figure out a way to make three. He’s just that way; he’s a very intelligent athlete.”
