Richardson mulls future as NHL head coach
/The Ottawa Sun notes that Binghamton Senators coach Luke Richardson is not pushing for Paul MacLean's job, but Richardson has made it clear in talks with Senators GM Bryan Murray that when Richardson does return to the NHL, he'd prefer it be as a head coach and not an assistant.
"He agreed with me," said Richardson. "He goes 'I was the same way.'
"I don't try to say it where I think I'm better than anybody, or I'm better than that position of assistant coach, I just prefer it."
Richardson also said, "I think I still have lots to learn. Not that I'm not ready for the NHL ... I've done that as a player, so I'm in no rush to get there.
"I don't want to pass up opportunities, but I have an opportunity here and I really like it and embrace it. And I'm loyal to Bryan and the organization, because they've been loyal to me. I'm under contract for next year, and that's the way I look at it. I'm here next year. I'm not planning to go to the NHL, and I really don't have aspirations to coach in the NHL next year."
