Roy gives Avalanche players creative freedom

The Pioneer Press outlines how, as a successful player, Patrick Roy 'always carried a well-earned reputation for being both fiery and nuts.'

Now, as head coach of the highly-successful Avalanche?

"He's been really good," Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog said. "A young group like this, we need to be controlled sometimes. And that's not by yelling and screaming.

"I think he knows that we're responsible. I think he knows that the reason we have such a talented group is because of the creativity and the way we make plays and see plays out there. As a good coach, he would never take that away from us. It's been huge that he's done that. He still has the lines and systems but we do get some freedom, which I think is important for a young group like this."
