Kessel, Seguin weren't 'core players' for Bruins
/Earlier Wednesday, we ran this story featuring Boston Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli. Part of it included discussions on the big trades the team has made in recent years, alluding to Phil Kessel and Tyler Seguin.
“It’s always about the fit," said Chiarelli. "You’ve got to have the right fit, and sometimes that leads to some hard decisions.”
The Toronto Sun outlines how the Leafs could learn a thing or two from the Bruins and Chiarelli is asked about those same two deals, difficult as they were at the time.
“Certainly we traded away some good players,” Chiarelli said Wednesday. “Both Phil and Tyler were good for us. In fact, they were both our leading scorers.
“But we feel you always have to be pro-active. You have to make hard decisions, with the salary cap and all. That’s not an indictment against Tyler and Phil. They were great for us.
“You just have to figure out who your core players are. You have to look at your collective whole. And chemistry is as important a part of that as anything.”
Chiarelli also harkens back to the Blake Wheeler trade, noting Rich Peverley's importance to the Cup win.
