Vigneault: Canadian market attention 'over the top'

Alain Vigneault most recently coached the Vancouver Canucks before taking his current post with the New York Rangers, but he has also coached the Montreal Canadiens.

So how's the pressure in New York versus a Canadian market?

“Now, having lived in New York for a year, I can say that the attention a Canadian team gets compared to what I see the Yankees are getting now, or the Knicks got during the year, or what we get — there is no comparison,” Vigneault said, via The New York Times, this past week.

“In Canada, it’s over the top,” Vigneault continued. “It’s 12 months a year, seven days a week, 24 hours. And that’s all there is. When I coached Vancouver for those seven years, there were 20 coaches that went through the other markets in Canada — and for most of that time, there were just five other markets, because Winnipeg hadn’t come in yet.”
