Flames unlikely to trade No. 4 pick
/The Calgary Sun collected reaction from Brian Burke on the Flames coming out of the draft lottery with the fourth overall pick.
Trade up, down, or keep the pick?
"If a new GM is in place before the draft, that’ll be his call. Otherwise, I can tell you my mindset right now is to pick. I like this draft group,” Burke said. “My mindset right now is to keep the pick and make the pick.
“I think the cost to go up probably isn’t balanced off by the quality of the player you’ll get. Where we’re picking, we like this group of players. When I’ve moved up in the past, it was for a specific player because I wasn’t crazy about what was there when I was gonna pick. I don’t feel that way with this group.”
On the prospect of trading for a higher pick in any draft:
“You’ve got to have an incentive to move up. It’s not just to be the start of the draft, go up and pick first or second and say, ‘Look at me. I moved up.’ You had better get value for the cost. The price tag is significant, so you’d better get value. I’m very comfortable at four that we’re still in that first grouping.”
