Messier reflects on 1994 Game 6 guarantee

With another playoff season quickly approaching, Rangers legend Mark Messier revisits with The New York Daily News the circumstances surrounding his famous Game 6 guaranteed win in 1994 against the New Jersey Devils.

“You’re always trying to gauge the temperament and confidence of the team, and anytime you’re in a tough series, momentum swings are common,” Messier said. “They go back and forth, and sometimes during the games we found ourselves on the wrong side of that momentum and trying to get it back from a Devils team that was playing very well. We knew for us to get back, we were going to have to play better than we had played, and to do that you have to have the confidence that you can do that. That inspired the set of circumstances that followed.”
