Desharnais: We'll respect Vanek's UFA decision
/The Montreal Gazette notes Thomas Vanek's status as an unrestricted free agent this summer in profiling linemate David Desharnais.
“He’s a great guy, a great teammate, a great player and we love him as a linemate, too,” Desharnais said. “But he’s got to make some decisions for his career and his family, so we’ll respect that.”
On Vanek's abilities: "Vanek adds another dimension to our line. It’s just crazy. He can do it all. Vanek has almost a point-a-game career, so you know you’re making points with that guy.”
On having Vanek on the right wing: “Playing with Vanek is difficult, but it’s easy at the same time. You don’t want to be too close to him — it’s better to kind of be far from him so he can find you. He’s strong on the puck and he’s going to come out with it and make plays that nobody else would.
“He’s not going to be around you too much. He’s going to be somewhere that nobody else would be so we can try those silly plays, I guess.”
