Ceci not surprised at Monahan's success

The Calgary Sun takes a look at Sean Monahan's return to Ontario as the Flames travel east, noting former junior teammate Cody Ceci has kept a close eye on Monahan's noteworthy campaign.

“He’s always had a nose for the net. He just finds a way to put it in. That’s the way he’s always played when I’ve been playing with him,” said Ceci of Monahan. “He had a great opportunity in Calgary. He’s gotten a chance to play in all situations, and I think that’s helped him. He didn’t lose confidence ever. He just stepped up. He’s playing the way he was playing when I was playing with him. He’s succeeded. It doesn’t surprise me too much. He’s such a smart player, and he’s got skill.”

The Ottawa Sun also profiles the reunion of the two former teammates, with this offering from Flames coach Bob Hartley on Monahan from earlier this month:

"He's a 30-year-old kid," said Hartley. "The maturity that he's showing, his ability to learn. You tell him once, you can turn around and do something else because you know it's in the bank. He has the ability to learn so quick about technical stuff on the ice. You get him in the video room and he's like a sponge. He wants to learn, do well. He's calm. He's been unbelievable."
