Eakins recalls 'Forrest Gump' moment for Selanne record
/Dallas Eakins, via The Edmonton Journal, shares his recollection of Teemu Selanne breaking Mike Bossy's rookie goals record in 1993 with both Eakins and Selanne playing for the Winnipeg Jets.
“It was four-on-four, I remember. Myself, Phil Housley, Teemu and Tie Domi were on the ice. Obviously Tie and I were out there watching Teemu and Phil play,” said Eakins.
“An amazing moment to be on the ice for.
“For me, it was like a Forrest Gump moment . . . what are you doing here? But you’re in the moment.
“I remember they stopped the game to kind of honor the record and I was on one knee next to the bench and I believe it was Mike Lalor, and he just leaned in to me and said, ‘Take all this in because this is never ever going to happen again.”
