Brossoit-Feaster exchange reveals insight into Smid trade
/The Edmonton Journal examines the whirlwind season of Oilers goaltending prospect Laurent Brossoit, who is up with the big club because Viktor Fasth is sidelined with an injury.
In November, the Calgary Flames dealt Brossoit and Roman Horak to Edmonton for Ladislav Smid and Olivier Roy.
“Jay Feaster called me and said the trade had nothing to do with them being upset at my development. They were actually very fond of me and had nothing but great things to say. It was a matter of them needing a defenceman, and the Oilers wouldn’t negotiate with anyone else,” Brossoit said. “To get traded for a player like Ladislav Smid was a huge confidence builder to know I had some value.”
What does it mean that 'the Oilers wouldn't negotiate with anyone else' exactly?
Perhaps Brossoit misheard or misunderstood what the former Flames GM said at the time.
Someone get Jay Feaster on the line. Oilers fans may want a follow-up question on that subject.
