Maurice to Jets fans: Give Pavelec a chance
/Paul Maurice went to bat for his oft-embattled goaltender, Ondrej Pavelec, who has a 2.35 goals against average and a .916 save percentage since Maurice got behind the bench of the Jets.
"There's only a handful of guys that ever reach that Brodeur stage, where you don't even consider a rough stretch," Maurice said, via The Winnipeg Sun. "So he's like the rest of them. He's gotta prove it every day. That's a lot of pressure. I'd like to think we're going to give him a better chance to do that."
Pavelec can't always stand on his head, Maurice continues, which then becomes a time when Jets fans feel he's underperforming.
"My feeling on Pav is that when he doesn't reach that game, because they've seen it enough, they feel he's under performed," Maurice said. "I just don't think that's right. I don't think that's fair."
