Friedman: Blackhawks, Canadiens may have interest in Coyotes' Vermette
/Elliotte Friedman was on Calgary’s Sportsnet 960 on Tuesday afternoon.
As part of a larger overall discussion on the market around the league for Antoine Vermette:
“I think there’s a lot of really good teams that are interested in him. I wrote today that I wouldn’t be surprised if the Blackhawks had some interest and I got a text from someone I trust saying, ‘You’re in the right ballpark there. We think they are another team.’
“I could see Marc Bergevin having interest because if you look at his history, he goes out and gets UFAs at the deadline. He went out and got Thomas Vanek last year. He got Michael Ryder a couple of years ago. He tried to get Raffi Torres a couple of years ago, but didn’t like the price. He’s also traded for Sergei Gonchar and Bryan Allen this year. These are all guys who have no term remaining.
“So I do think there’s a lot because people look at Vermette as a very good player, and if they can’t fit him under their cap situation, he’s someone you simply let walk at the end of the year.”
