Friedman: Panthers' UFAs available via trade

Elliotte Friedman was on Calgary’s Sportsnet 960 on Monday morning.

On Dale Tallon and the Florida Panthers:

“Well, I think the one thing is even though they only have nine wins in 21 tries, I think they really like what’s coming with their young players. You’re starting to see them move up the lineup, and they have a couple more kids coming down, including one guy named Vincent Trocheck, who they really think are going to be able to play. And I think what that’s doing is kind of forcing the other players out. Like, a guy like Tomas Fleischmann, for example, is one of their better power play players and now, because the younger players are going up the lineup up, Gerard Gallant is not really using him.

“So I think guys like him, Sean Bergenheim, the guys who are UFAs – although I haven’t heard Scottie Upshall’s name, and he’s a UFA at the end of the year. I think those other guys are definitely available.

“I think the guy though that other teams kind of like, and I think Pittsburgh is probably one of them, is Brad Boyes. Now here’s the problem: Boyes has one more year and the Panthers really like him. He’s been playing a lot of minutes. He’s been getting some first line time. So I think if teams want to get him, they’re going to have to pay up. I don’t think that’s as easy a trade for opponents as some of the UFAs would be.”
