McKenzie: Iginla is "perfect fit in Boston"

Bob McKenzie was on TSN 1040 Tuesday morning.

On if Jarome Iginla is a fit with the Colorado Avalanche:

“Well, that’s the question with Jarome. We know Jarome can still play the game because he proved it in a big way last year with the Boston Bruins.

“I remember when the Bruins and Jarome had to part ways because of salary cap considerations, I thought, ‘You know what, this is really unfortunate. Both for the Bruins and for Jarome Iginla.’

“The Bruins have not been able to fill that right wing spot on the top line with Krejci and Lucic the way that Jarome Iginla filled it last year after Nathan Horton left the Bruins and Jarome came in. And Jarome is a perfect fit in Boston because Boston plays – they play a style of play where there’s tremendous puck support. They come up the ice as a five-man group. They come back as a five-man group. There’s a lot of support there. It’s not stretched out and playing a run and gun offensive-type  game that Jarome didn’t fit very well with in Pittsburgh. So in many ways, he and the Boston Bruins were the absolute perfect marriage. And the only reason they didn’t stay together was because the salary cap wouldn’t allow it.

“And now we go into a situation in Colorado where again, with them stretching it out playing an offensive brand, trying to be aggressive offensively - does Jarome Iginla fit with the style Colorado is trying to play? It’s early yet and you’ve got to give them more time than this. But with all the other problems they’ve had, this is just one more stacking on the pile.”
