Dreger on trade talk with Flyers, Oilers, Leafs, Jets

Darren Dreger was on Winnipeg’s TSN 1290 on Wednesday afternoon.

On which teams, outside of the Oilers, he’s hearing are active on the NHL trade front:

"Yeah, you know – pick a team. There’s a lot of them. I don’t hear much on Winnipeg. There’s always the weekly tire-kicking that Cheveldayoff is part of. They all are.

“I think a lot of people are paying attention to what Dave Nonis and the Toronto Maple Leafs are doing. And when you throw out the word ‘untouchable,’ that’s a word that doesn’t apply in Toronto either. So is there an appetite for some pretty significant change? I think it depends on how the rest of this week goes. Last week was a colossal failure for the Leafs as an organization, both on and off the ice. They can’t have too many more weeks like that, so keep close attention to what’s going on there.

“The Philadelphia Flyers are definitely hungry, so maybe there’s a fit between Philadelphia and Edmonton.

“And on and on we go. In terms of big-name guys in play, not a lot of big-name guys in play. But certainly the list of those middle-of-the-pack to secondary role players is growing.”

On the Flyers specifically:

"I mean, their defense isn't good enough. And then that's an area of deep concern they have to address. That's why you continue to hear some of the bigger forwards' names in play like Brayden Schenn, and go down the list from there.

"I think that Hexy is going to be active. I do. I can't say that I predict he's going to be active in the next couple of weeks or before the roster freeze on December 19. But when he gets a real good handle on what's available in the market, and where he really needs to make improvements, then this is a guy that's not going to be afraid to do that."
