Dreger on Kadri's future, "thin" trade market
/Darren Dreger was on Toronto’s TSN 1050 on Thursday evening.
On if Peter Holland’s ascension with the Leafs impacts what the team might do with Nazem Kadri, since Kadri doesn’t make as much sense as a No. 3 centre:
“It just depends on what’s available. Nonis continues to say the same things: ‘Every player is available. Just offer something better and we’ll talk about what it’s going to take to get a deal done.’
“In the moment, the market is pretty thin out there, to be honest. There’s not a lot of trade dialog going on and the players that maybe Nonis might consider just aren’t good enough. They’re not going to be a considerable upgrade.

“But I’ve said this right from Day One. I think that sooner rather than later, this organization has to get to a point with a couple of players – Kadri being one, Jake Gardiner maybe being another – where you’ve got to make a determination: Have they reached their peak? If they don’t, so what? If you’re getting something better in return that’s going to make your club in the moment better and in the short term in the next couple of years, make the deal. Stop waiting around.”
