MacLellan, Capitals eyeing salary cap projections
/Washington Capitals GM Brian MacLellan appeared on the weekly Capitals Report on Monumental Network Wednesday.
There was a report over the weekend about the salary cap maybe not going up as much as some teams expected. Perhaps not even at all. I know you guys have a lot of RFAs who are going to be having their hands out next summer. Have you guys done the long-term on what that might mean if that levels off a little bit?
“Yeah, I think it’s funny because at one point the governors meeting says they’re going up to approximately 74 – it’s been the general consensus of it. Now they came out and said maybe the Canadian exchange – the Canadian dollar is going to depreciate.
“I think it’s tough to plan for a depreciation and the Canadian dollar and say the cap’s going to go down. I think we’ll monitor it going forward here and obviously if the cap goes up, it’s inflationary for salaries. If we get the feeling that it’s not going to go up as much as we expected, I think we’ll adjust salary-wise to that.”
