Friedman on possibility of Silfverberg trade

Monday’s Cogliano-Shore trade may not be the only deal on which Bob Murray is working for his Anaheim Ducks.

Elliotte Friedman had a Monday afternoon radio hit on Calgary’s Sportsnet 960.

Following some discussion on Randy Carlyle, Friedman noted of Murray that “he made one trade today, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s going to make some more.”

Given the chance to expand on that thought, the Insider did just that.

“I don’t think I’d be surprised at all if Silfverberg gets traded,” said Friedman. “I heard that Pittsburgh was kicking tires on him earlier in the year.

“I think the fact that Silfverberg hasn’t been signed yet as a pending UFA - I heard that he and the Ducks, they weren’t close, or they were really battling and it was a hard grind to get it done.

“So I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s going somewhere too at some point.”

“The other thing that Anaheim - Fowler was out for a long time. He’s a really big part of their team. Rakell was out for a long time. He’s a big part of their team. I think Bob wanted those guys back in the lineup before he really committed to making a coaching change.

“I mean, we’ll see. But it’s pretty obvious to me that he’s going to be looking at a few things.”

Jakob Silfverberg is in the final season of a four-year, $15 million contract, and can become a UFA this summer.
