Friedman on RFAs Nylander and Theodore

Sam Reinhart and the Buffalo Sabres agreed to terms on a new contract Wednesday, but several notable restricted free agents are still without deals.

During a Tuesday afternoon The Program appearance on Vancouver’s Sportsnet 650, Elliotte Friedman was asked for his latest on RFAs William Nylander of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Shea Theodore of the Vegas Golden Knights.

“Unless something has happened in the last 10 hours, not much,” indicated Friedman. “Nylander and the Leafs are considerably far apart. They’re dug in, and there’s not a lot of movement here right now. I think if you’re Toronto, you are prepared for the possibility that this will go into the season, that there is a possibility that this will happen.

“I don’t get the sense they want to trade Nylander. Again, this could all change - and it could have changed earlier today - but as of yesterday, the word was they really didn’t have an interest in trading him.

“Theodore, I’ve heard that he’s offered the possibility of doing either bridge or term, and they’re just unhappy with the offers either way. He doesn’t really have a lot of power over his situation, and the Golden Knights are wielding that that right now, just like Toronto is.

“So again, if anything changed today I’m a bit behind. But as of last night, I heard that one really wasn’t going anywhere.”
