Friedman on trades: ‘There’s lots of talk’

The appetite for change appears to be growing for a number of teams around the NHL.

Elliotte Friedman had a Friday morning radio hit on Calgary’s Sportsnet 960, and was asked what he’s hearing on that front.

“There’s lots of talk,” said Friedman. “You mentioned L.A. and you mentioned Chicago and there’s St. Louis. There’s a lot of crazy stuff, rumors, coming out of St. Louis. We’ll find out somewhere down the road how much of it is truth and how much of it is fiction. But they’re definitely open to ideas there. Boston has been looking for a third-line center, at least, for quite awhile now. I think there’s a lot of talk out there.

“I don’t know if Edmonton is going to do anything. Klefbom is a huge loss for them. He’s been such a good player this year, although Nurse looks like he’s ready to step into the void a little bit.

“Another guy I kind of wonder about is Burakovsky in Washington. It’s been basically a couple of years for him at this point where his name has been in trade rumors and out of trade rumors. He had big moments last year during the playoffs, and he got a big promotion this year when Wilson was hurt, but now he’s kind of down the lineup again. His is a name that’s kind of been out there a little bit.

“I think there’s a lot of talk going on. But you’re right, it’s a question of whether or not anything gets consummated about it.

“Somebody told me that that Sprong trade that Pittsburgh and Anaheim made, that one had been discussed for a long time before it actually happened. Sometimes it just takes people awhile to pull the trigger. That’s kind of where we are right now.”

Burakovsky is in the second season of a two-year, $6 million contract. He can become a restricted free agent this summer, and will also be eligible for arbitration.
