Just how much would the Leafs be seeking for William Nylander if they did opt to deal the young restricted free agent?
Darren Dreger revealed what he believes that price to be during Tuesday’s edition of TSN’s Insider Trading.
“The big issue is who is going to meet the ask,” noted Dreger. “Assuming again the Toronto Maple Leafs get to the point where they are willing to part with William Nylander.
“And the ask is going to be significant. There is a ton of interest, as Bob has illustrated, but the ask is likely going to include two pieces off the roster, and my sources indicate it could be a top-four defenseman along with a top-nine forward.
“Because the Toronto Maple Leafs believe to contend for the Stanley Cup they’d have to add some key pieces and that forward would be very crucial, along with a defenseman. So it’s not an easy ask.”
Nylander is a restricted free agent coming out of his entry-level contract, and if he’s not signed to a new deal before the December 1 RFA deadline he won’t be eligible to play in the NHL this season.
