Dreger: "A lot of buzz" around Canadiens' trade potential

Darren Dreger was on Toronto’s TSN 1050 on Monday morning.

On who is more likely among Tampa Bay, Montreal, Detroit or the Islanders to make a trade to show they’re all-in:

"Well, there’s a lot of buzz and noise, if you will, around the Montreal Canadiens – and has been for quite some time.

“Dave Nonis is paying attention to the Tampa Bay Lightning for a reason. Could they maybe add a piece defensively? They’ve had trouble health-wise there and you can never have too much depth in that position, so that’s possible.

“But around the Montreal Canadiens, we’ve talked a lot this year about Marc Bergevin wanting to add another offensive piece. A top-6 player. I know that he’s had discussions with other clubs about a defensive swap as well.

“So that’s a team that liked where they’re at last year. They love the fact they gutted it out to the Eastern Conference Final, and probably saw some weakness aside from the obvious in the injury to Carey Price in that Eastern Conference Final to the New York Rangers. But they believe they can take a step further and get to the Stanley Cup Final. Well, to do that, Bergevin is going to have to find whatever that missing link was from a year ago.

“So I look at Montreal as being a team that could shake things up a bit.”
