McKenzie on Canadiens, Oilers, Yakupov, Eberle

Bob McKenzie was on Montreal’s TSN 690 on Friday morning.

On Canadiens fans wondering if Jordan Eberle and/or Nail Yakupov are sought by GM Marc Bergevin, and if McKenzie thinks those two are the most likely Oilers forwards to be moved:

“Um, that’s a good question. I don’t know. Honestly, I’m still not entirely convinced that one of those bigger name guys, core guys as they call them in Edmonton... Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins... Nugent-Hopkins is not going anywhere. I don’t think Hall is either. I think they’d listen.

“But I don’t think that Craig MacTavish is likely to pull off one of those deals between now and the deadline. And something like that, which is a substantial change in direction, it’s more likely to happen in the summer than right now. But I guess you never say never.

“So I’m not sitting there – If I’m a Montreal Canadiens fan, I’m not sitting there holding my breath waiting for Nail Yakupov or Jordan Eberle to show up. I guess I could never say never that it’ll never happen, but I wouldn’t hold my breath between now and the deadline. Maybe by the summer some of those bigger names in Edmonton will move.”
